Simplicity in Worship, Substance in Teaching, Sincerity in Fellowship
Simplicity in Worship
We are not trying to put on a show, impress people, or emotionally manipulate anyone into making decisions or thinking they have had an encounter with God when they have simply worked themselves up. We are focused only on honoring and bringing glory to our God. Our church motto verse is Galatians 6:14, “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”
As such, we worship in simplicity opening our meeting in prayer and the reading of a Psalm. Our songs are mostly hymns from The Hymnal for Worship & Celebration. We sing all the songs together as a congregation sometimes with an instrument and sometimes without.
Substance in Teaching
Our pastor teaches through books of the Bible verse by verse allowing the Bible to speak for itself as we change our lives in accordance to God’s Holy Word. The preaching is highly inspired by great teachers of the past such as J. Vernon McGee.
Sincerity in Fellowship
Our church membership isn’t signing a card and joining a club like its some sort of wholesale warehouse store. We expect to actually know one another as we build each other up following the leading of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word.
Some people will be wearing a suit and tie or a dress, others won’t. We come from various backgrounds and live in different economic circumstances, but we are brothers and sisters in Christ, united by our love for Christ, and committed to following His Word.
Statement of Faith
-
The Holy Bible is the Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, without error in the original text, accurately preserved for us today, and wholly sufficient for coming to the knowledge of God and living the Christian life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:16-21; Romans 15:4; Hebrews 4:12; Matthew 24:35; Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33)
-
The one true God who revealed himself to Moses as YHWH, the I AM, is eternal without beginning or end, perfect, unequaled, and the creator of all things. (Genesis 1:1; Exodus 3:13-15; John 1:1-5; Revelation 1:8; Deuteronomy 4:35; Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 18:30; Psalm 19:7-11; 1 Chronicles 29:11-13; Revelation 4:11)
YHWH is a triune being consisting of one essence and three persons made known to us as: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4-5; Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 28:18-20; John 14:16-17; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 10:30; Colossians 2:9; Titus 2:13; John 14:6-7; 1 Corinthians 2:10-11; 1 Corinthians 12:11; Acts 5:3-5)
-
God created mankind in His image and in perfection for the purpose of mankind knowing God in perfect fellowship and love. (Genesis 1:26-28; Genesis 2:7; Romans 11:36; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Psalm 73:23-28; Revelation 21:3)
Mankind rejected God’s authority following in the footsteps of the Devil (who sought to make himself like God) by taking the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and thus sin and death entered into the world. (Genesis 3; Isaiah 14:12-17)
All of mankind through Adam have inherited a sinful nature, are dead in spirit, are cut off from fellowship with God and are destined for hell. (Psalm 51:5; Romans 5:12-14; Romans 3:10-18; Romans 3:23; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Revelation 21:8)
-
God in His grace and for His glory has seen fit to intervene on behalf of mankind by God the Son coming to earth born of a virgin as the man Jesus Christ. He lived a perfect and sinless life, died on a cross as payment for sin, rose again the third day conquering death, and ascended into heaven in the presence of many witnesses. He is preparing a place for all who believe on Him and will return again for His people. (1 Peter 1:13-21; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Luke 1:26-35; 2 Corinthians 5:21; John 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Ephesians 1:3-14, Ephesians 2:1-7)
The only means of salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. No works of human effort or rituals are necessary and it is in fact an affront to God to suggest that we can do anything to earn salvation. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Isaiah 64:6; Romans 3:20; Titus 3:5-7; John 14:6)
-
We acknowledge that all true believers in Jesus Christ are a part of His body and that one day all true Christians will be gathered up into one Church unified and perfected to be with Christ forever. In this sense we believe in one universal church. Until that day, God’s plan for the world is to use local churches which are congregations of like-minded regenerate believers cooperating with one another in mutual accountability to glorify God, advance the gospel, and make disciples. (Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 12; Acts 2:46-47; Matthew 28:18-20)
-
We believe there are two ordinances given to the church for its benefit and for God’s glory: Communion -or the Lord’s Supper- and Water Baptism. These ordinances do not confer grace nor are they essential to salvation. (Ephesians 2:14-18)
The Lord’s Supper is a memorial of the death of Jesus Christ whereby believers remember His sacrifice while demonstrating our unity with Him and with one another of His body (the church). In keeping this practice until Christ returns we also acknowledge our hope for the future. (Luke 22:17-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
Water Baptism is a public demonstration of the inward work of salvation -Spirit Baptism- that has already taken place in the believer and a sign of their commitment to follow Jesus Christ. Water Baptism represents the inward work of Spirit Baptism. In Water Baptism believers outwardly and openly identify with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, reckoning themselves dead to their old self and committing to walk according to their new life. The proper method is through submersion in water. (Mark 1:8; Matthew 3:11; Luke 3:16; John 1:33; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:41; Acts 8:12; Acts 8:26-39)
-
We believe that all of the spiritual gifts are listed in Romans 12:6-8 and that what are commonly known as “the sign gifts” are better understood as manifestations of the Spirit rather than Spiritual gifts. We maintain that miracles and manifestations of the Spirit can occur at any time and in any way that God sees fit, but we reject that “sign gifts” are necessary for the Christian life or that they can be conjured up by the will of an individual. (1 Corinthians 12:1 gifts is not in the original Greek text; 1 Corinthians 12:27-31 the questions are rhetorical as not all do those things; Hebrews 2:4)
-
We believe that we are not bound by the civil and ceremonial laws of the Old Testament, but that the principles thereof are still of value and that they ultimately serve to point towards Jesus Christ. (Galatians 5:18; Romans 6:14; Colossians 2:16-19; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
-
Marriage is a holy institution ordained by God whereby one man and one woman come together in a covenant relationship to one another and to God. While man has perverted this institution in many ways over the course of history, the true church shall not endorse these perversions. (Genesis 2:22-25; Matthew 19:3-12; Ephesians 5:22-33; Colossians 3:18-19; 1 Corinthians 7; 1 Timothy 5:8; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Romans 1:18-32)
-
We hold a complementarian view of the roles of men and women. (1 Timothy 2:8-15; 1 Corinthians 11:2-16; 1 Peter 3:7)
-
While allowing for some different interpretations such as the gap theory, we generally hold a young earth creationist view. (Genesis 1)
-
We are not strict about eschatology, but we hold a premillennial view. (Isaiah 6:11-12; Isaiah 13:9; Isaiah 26; Revelation 20:1-7)
